Stores in Italy are closed on Monday morning and Sunday, except for jewelers that are open on Monday morning. The hours of opening and closing are generally from 9:00am to 12:30pm and from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Most shops in tourist cities observe all-day opening. Many businesses in the tourist cities accept US dollars (USD), but ask the bank or exchange office nearest the daily exchange rate . The best way is to use the credit card where accepted if you are not able to change your money on the ship.
Pay attention to gypsies, usually they are very young and in small groups often acts to theft, especially in Florence and Rome.
Public toilets are very difficult to find in Italy. If you need it, go into a bar, drink an espresso and ask for the bathroom.
Train tickets are not expensive but rail services are not excellent. Most of the trains for short trips do not have air conditioning. Do not forget to ask the railway staff if your train arrives directly to the destination to be reached, or if you have to change trains during the trip. Remember to stamp your ticket before boarding the train, using the appropriate machines stamping machines inside the station.
On arrival in port, you can find some taxis to the pier, they are all at your disposal for any request, sightseeing tours or transfers from the pier to the train station or center. If you need only a local transfer, ask the price directly to the driver, not aboard: different docks means different distances and different prices!
